Haiku

Haiku is a fascinating form of Japanese poetry, consisting of 17 syllables, distributed in three metrical phrases of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively. While in Japanese haiku are traditionally printed in a single vertical line, in English they usually appear in three lines.

I was introduced to haiku a few years ago and I find it to be a most inspiring and peculiar form. English seems to lend itself with ease to this structure, since so much of its vocabulary is composed of monosyllabic words.

These haiku verse on three themes: Love, the Journey Inside and the Journey Outside. Thanks for reading!
